This is my second time at an XL event but my first blog so bear with me.  I awoke to the sound of music...however this is the not good music you would enjoy waking up to, Stomping isnt the most tuneful clan member in the shower... So after my rude awakening my day could only get better? Not quite, subway is the worst place for food at 7:30 in the morning.

Oh and I hate queues. So after an hour or two of queuing  we got in to the Toute suite and I congradulate all who spent alot of time setting up the place as they have clearly thought about the setup and learnt what works and what doesnt when it comes to layout from the previous events. The place quickly filled with an estimated 450 entrants today and more expected tomorrow for the Call of duty 4 5V5 event. Lot’s of activity began on the Gears of War 4V4 side and on the CoD4 free for all side and it was great to see gamers with good calibur trash talkin and making friends playing both games. Aside from the two main games Codemasters turned up with pods to promote their new racing game Racedriver: Grid which i hadn’t heard much of and being a big racing fan i was eager to see what they had come up with.

The code was only 80% complete and was shaping up however it was a bit rough around the edges but im very keen to see what they can come up with in the end, so heres looking to a may release. In the other demo room Ubisoft had turned up with their latest shooter Rainbow 6 Vegas 2. At this point i will like to add that as an ex S.T.O vegas team member i had high hopes for this game and hoped it could maybe spawn a Vegas 2 team. After playing it for a while with fellow ex vegas memeber S.T.O UKBlackDragon the conclusion was made that whilst it’s nice to play a classic it wasnt what it used to be and felt clunky when compared to CoD4. The highlight of the event was the CoD4 FFA finals with many top class individuals from clans such as Reason, iD and BsE taking part. Im impressed so far and look forward to playing tomorrow in the S.T.O community teams CoD4 5V5 team!

This is my third time at the XL event & also my second time as a member of staff. Unfortunatley as a member of staff i have to arrive at the event a day early & help setup the event, when the equipment needed for the event arrived & was unloaded the well oiled machine of the XL staff got stuck in & got the whole event setup running & working within 4 hours.

On the morning of the event the tention was running high as more & more gamers were arriving for the largest european XL event to date with 450 gamers taking part. When it was finaly time to get the event underway i was given the task of making sure all the attending gamers were checked in & ready to enter the event. When i was behind the ticket booth i must say iv never seen such a bunch of enthusiastic  gamers looking forward to a weekend of fun, enjoyable & Friendly gaming.

Well words couldn’t discribe the atmosphere within the event it was was electric i’ve never seen so many people enjoying & having a laugth . During the first hour all the machines were running Gears of war  & Call of Duty 4 free play while the fixtures were taking shape & been organised. When the Gears & CoD4 tournaments started each match was intense as the next with each game a close battle between talented  team. As the tourniments progressed & the matches became more heated the more experienced clans shone through NoK, VVV & PhX but name a few.

So far the event is running smooth & i carnt wait to take part in the CoD4 5v5 as the atmosphere around the CoD4 stations is extatic.

Reverend (Rev)

Hey all im xl Reverend lX, this is my first XL competition and I can say it’s been a great experience for the first day. The day before was setting up, we had some laughs but I won’t bore you with the details of setting up tables 3 times... The first thing I should say is I was the good looking doorman letting  all the gamers in

which was good because i could put faces to the gamertags I have played in the past. Low points were sitting in the doorway asking the patrons to raise their wrists so that I could confirm that they have paid, i’m sure it wasn’t great for the people that had to do it 40 times in that day. Although I must say without the low’s there would be no highs and their was plenty of highs, watching some of the UK’s greatest gamers as in xbox and ps3 (BsE lads) battle it out was a huge rush. No one can deny that there were some great game’s, great frags and great knifes in the face on CoD4. Towards the end of the day I saw a sweet game of Gears of War, with both teams involved in some banter which was really interesting to see.
Definately the highlight was the 3 final games of CoD4 FFA, With £600 up for grabs. Hardcore gamers were pulling out all the stops and then some.

Finally Reason Gunshi won in a close battle. In my eyes thats what I love about gaming and xbox live in general. A superb community spirt and a very high grade of gaming finaly i’d like to thank S.T.O Stomping Freak for thinking of me when someone dropped out for work related problems, The Birmingham NEC Subways for being the hardest working sub shop in the UK looking after 300 lads and lassies snack needs, Kon (chris) and Boffy for arranging a great day of entertainment also Kon brought 25 odd meals for  the deservedly hard work stuff and lastly a drink in the bar for absent friends.
